EnterpriseWorks/VITA (EWV)
The Gyapa stove is a stove that EnterpriseWorks/VITA (EWV) brought to Ghana with the help of the Shell Foundation and USAID.
Local manufacturers were trained to make both the outside metal shells, and the inner ceramic liners. Once production was underway, they were linked to local retail outlets, who were given a variety of incentives to help them overcome initial obstacles like stocking costs, transportation, and marketing costs. As consumer demand for the stoves increased, then the incentives were gradually decreased, and the program still runs today without outside support.
