A simple Wool Cozy over a Metal pot skirt. The metal skirt protects the insulation and allows the hot gases to flow around the pot. The metal skirt does not protrude too far over the stove in order to allow oxygen to enter the combustion area. In addition it is important to be careful to make sure gas stoves do not overheat when using a pot skirt. Heat can be reflected down and cause the stove to explode (particularly with petrol/white gas stoves.)

There is a space between the skirt and pot that allows air to scrape along the side of the pot. The metal skirt and wool cozy provide a safer cooking environment. There is much less chance of getting burnt on the side or top of the pot. In addition the pot can be taken off the stove and made into a haybox cooker by placing on a piece of insulative material.
