FEATURED HEDON SUBSCRIBER -
A monthly look at what one of us is doing.
=============================

In HEDON's first feature article on the amazing work of our subscribers, we look at the dedicated efforts of Robert Flanagan, who has committed himself to transforming international scientific research on soil, agriculture, and renewable energy into a workable system, first, for farmers in China, and then, the world. This arrangement, itself utilizing ancient soil practices in Brazil, is based on the science of converting biomass into bio-fuels and nutrient-rich high-carbon fertilizer, allowing for the soil on which bio-energy crops are grown to not only be restored, but actually improved given the unique make-up of the resultant fertilizer. Better yet, the process is both carbon negative and applicable the world over.

** SOLAR HOUSEHOLD ENERGY, INC. **

One-third of the world's population relies on biomass (wood, dung and crop residue) for cooking. The costs are extremely high and
unsustainable: environmental degradation, economic hardship and disease. Solar cooking with new technology like Solar Household Energy's ''HotPot'' solar oven offers practical, affordable, long-term relief. Sunshine sufficient to power solar ovens is
available in some 67 countries.

A non-profit 501(c)(3) organization, SHE, Inc., seeks to harness free enterprise to introduce solar cooking to improve quality of life and relieve stress on the environment. We are working both with private entities and local NGOs to establish the sustainable distribution of efficient, economical solar cooking technology.
Working with these groups, SHE, Inc., designs and oversees training and distribution projects in targeted areas in Mexico, Central America and Africa. Training is provided to users and community instructors. Surveys generally are conducted before, during and after projects to measure success.

The activities of SHE, Inc., have been supported through grants from the World Bank's Development Marketplace and the Environmental Protection Agency.
